Hamza Shahbaz re-elected Chief Minister of Punjab: Deputy Speaker

PML-N candidate mian Hamza Shehbaz was again elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab while Parvez Elahi faced defeat again.

Voting was held in the Punjab Assembly for the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab in which Hamza Shehbaz got the support of the majority.

Meeting of the Punjab Assembly for the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab started with a delay of about three and a half hours at 7 pm after which Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari started the voting process.

According to the voting results, PTI's candidate Pervaiz Elahi got 186 votes while PML-N's Hamza Shehbaz got 179 votes.

However, after the voting process was completed, Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari read out the letter of  PMQ-League chief Chaudhry Shujaat in which he instructed the PMl Q-League members not to vote.

Deputy Speaker said that according to the decision of the Supreme Court all the 10 votes cast by the Q League are rejected and I announce that Hamza Shahbaz has-been elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab after the 10 votes are over.

On this occasion PML  Q-League & Tehreek-e-Insaaf members protested.

Earlier Dost Mohammad Mazari told the House that according to the decision of the Supreme Court Hamza Shehbaz got 197 votes in the election held on April 16, out of which, after removing 25 votes, his number of votes becomes 172, which is required. It is less than 186 votes so now they do not have majority.

Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari said that now any member will need the support of the majority of the existing members to elect the Chief Minister of Punjab.
