A video of Indian police beating a group of Muslim youths has been viewed by millions of people in India.

Video was shared by an elected leader of the ruling BJP who praised the police brutality calling it a gift to them.

So far no action has been taken against these officers. The families of the victims say their loved ones are innocent and should be released immediately.

Zeba cries helplessly while saying this. With trembling hands she is watching a very painful video of her younger brother Saif on her mobile phone.


I can not even see her she's been hit so hard she says.


He is at his home in the northern Indian city of Saharanpur where his relatives are consoling him.

The officers are swinging the poles as if they had a baseball bat in their hands. As soon as the blow of the stick hits their bodies screams come out along with its sound.


Saif 24 is one of dozens of Muslim men detained by police last week.

After the Friday prayers thousands of people gathered at the town mosque to protest against the controversial remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nopur Sharma about the Prophet of Islam.


He was suspended by the party after fierce protests from Muslim countries and the party said it was against insulting any religion.


Protests in Saharanpur have been largely peaceful and people have-been protesting from mosques to city centers.

As tensions escalated Hindu shops were attacked and two businessmen were injured. Officers dispersed the crowd with batons.


According to police documents, Saif and 30 others have been charged with inciting riots and violence. He is also accused of deliberately harming a government official and endangering people's lives.
