In July 1995 Bosnian Serb troops massacred about 8,000 Muslim men after  Dutch army was defeated. Earlier Dutch government insisted that  failure to provide air support was in fact the fault of United Nations.

This ultimately made it impossible to successfully complete the mission.

He praised Dutch Beat III saying that it continued its mission even in most difficult of circumstances which was not possible.

In addition to the amnesty troops stationed in Srebrenica were awarded a bronze medal by Defense Minister Kajisa Olungreen.

During a genocidal campaign by Bosnian Serb forces in July 1995 thousands of Muslims fled to a UN safe haven in Bosnian town of Srebrenica. They were protected by very few Dutch soldiers. Soldiers were later captured by Bosnian Serb soldiers because of their weak defense capabilities.

After the Dutch forces surrendered Bosnian Serb troops under General Ratko Mladic set aside Muslim men and boys between the ages of 12 & 77 & announced that they would be interrogated.

Over the next 5 days Ratko Mladic troops killed more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslims & buried them in mass graves. Serbia has always denied that killings were part of a genocidal campaign but has acknowledged it as a crime.

Prime Minister Rotte pardon comes a year after a report made several recommendations to help 850 Dutch Beat III troops. Many of these soldiers suffered from post traumatic stress disorder after  war.
