MI5 cyber security: a new app to catch spies on the Internet
Intelligence: UK British government has launched a new app aimed at protecting people from falling prey to online spying by foreign spies.
UK United Kingdom intelligence agency MI5 says it is aware that tens of thousands of United Kingdom British Uk citizens have-been targeted through fake social media profiles on websites such as LinkedIn & Facebook. Foreign spies try to persuade people to give sensitive information.
This app called Think Before You Link will help people to identify suspicious people contacts.
Detectives have long sought out people to access sensitive information but the online world now allows them to do so on a large scale & remotely.

No longer does a spy need to meet any one at a conference or coffee shop he can do just that by creating a fake profile & using it to trap people.
People who are contacted in beginning are asked less sensitive questions & later when snow melts line is crossed.
Building Relationships App
The British government has released a series of case studies showing how spies obtain sensitive information by contacting people.
In 1 case an unidentified former government employee, whose security has-been cleared, contacts someone on a professional networking site & then travels to another country to meet him.
MI5 :Over a 6 month period he was provided with a secret communications system & was asked to provide sensitive government information.
Case is being cited as an example of growing threat posed by foreign online spying methods.
In another instance a serving security clerk approached a government employee pretending to be affiliated with a think tank.
Because an acquaintance of 2 also appeared in contact list government employee despite some doubts, felt that the profile was real. After that a series of messages started and then a consultancy was also offered.
MI 5 : Officials say number of these methods has increased significantly. According to MI5 10,000 people were contacted across country last year.
