KPK :No matter where we go  police arrest us in Pakistan & Afghan Taliban government in Afghanistan does not tolerate us. Now KPK police have arrested 4 of our comrades here.

Asadullah pseudonym is an Afghan singers 25 years old who came to Peshawar after establishment of Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

He is accompanied by 2 brothers while other members of his family remain in Afghanistan.

Asadullah says there is a bit of work with local artists which generates some income most of which is sent to Afghan families.

If they go out to eat they ask for a card a passport  even KPK police come to the room we have in a building he said.

They threaten to take us to court saying that you are a refugee & that you are living here. You do Not have a card we say we are refugees we are human beings we are in difficult situations there are no criminals.

Asadullah said We introduce ourselves to the police that we are singers. They say that if you are a singer do Not you listen to songs? We say that songs will-be sung at weddings or celebrations of their brothers or sons but we do not have any hearing.

Protest with music Afghan singers

Afghan & Pakistani artists staged a unique protest in front of  Peshawar Press Club on Monday morning with harmoniums & drums. The protest follows arrest of 4 Afghan artists.

Protesters have demanded the release of arrested artists & demanded that they be given a document or card that would not be disturbed by  police.

After Peshawar Press Club protesters marched in front of KPK Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in order to reach out to the authorities.

The demonstrators in the rally continued to dance to  traditional Pashto attanar. Police tried to stop the rally on the way but protesters said they were peaceful & were going to reach their defendants.

The demonstrators held placards with demands saying that  protest was being carried out with music. A placard read You can't throw us in front of wolves.

Local Pakistani artist Rashid Ahmad Khan stands with them in support of these Afghan artists. It is inhumane to arrest these Afghan artists & hand them over to Taliban in Afghanistan he told British News.

Music and artist activities are banned in Afghanistan & there are fears that artists lives could be in danger if they are sent to Afghanistan.

What is the police doing?

Police 1st arrested 2 Afghan artists and then 2 more last night artists said.

Arrests are being made under  Foreign Act. The movement of Afghan refugees in Peshawar is being closely monitored & Afghan refugees who don't have residency documents are being arrested & sent back to Afghanistan.

Peshawar senior superintendent of police  mr Haroon Rasheed told British News: Residents of the flat where they live had complained to the police that there was music all night & they were not at peace. Police took action. & the information turned out to be that they are Afghans and they do not have any kind of travel document & this is a crime that the police keep on prosecuting.
