Major General Babar Iftikhar Director General Public Relations ISPR briefed the media on the details in a press briefing on Thursday night.
At 6:43 pm on March 9, 2022 a fast moving object was spotted in Indian territory which suddenly entered Pakistani territory and crashed near Mian Channu he said.
When it fell the civilian population was damaged but no one was killed he said.
Pakistan detected this thing from flying from India to falling in Mian Channu he said.
Major General Babar Iftikhar said that Pakistan Air Force acted in accordance with SOPs. However he said that object itself had collapsed.
This has put domestic and foreign flights at risk not only in Pakistan but also in India he said. The crash could have caused a major air crash.
Pakistan protests this blatant Indian violation & warns of any such incident in the future he added.
He said that Pakistan was waiting-for India explanation regarding the incident.
Air Vice Marshal Tariq Zia who accompanied Major General Babar Iftikhar on the occasion said All we can say at the moment is that this thing was possibly a supersonic missile.
It was a surface to surface missile but unarme he said.
Air Vice Marshal Tariq Zia further elaborated on
the incident saying that initially the object was spotted 104 km from the Indian border.
The Pakistan Air Force tracked the speeding object until it crashed he said.
The object fell near Mian Channu at 6:50 a.m. local time after entering Pakistani airspace.
It hit a total of 124 kilometers inside Pakistani territory and it took 6 minutes and 46 seconds to take off from the flight he said.
It may be recalled that in this regard police officials of Khanewal district of Punjab province had initially informed that a training plane had crashed in the area of Mian Channu tehsil.
However he later denied the allegations saying that a boiler had exploded in the area.
