In the Indian state of Karnataka  High Court has upheld the decision to ban hijab in schools and colleges saying that hijab is not an integral part of Islam. Following the ruling Karnataka Chief Minister Basu Raj Bomai has appealed to Muslim students to respect the courts decision and continue their studies in the classroom.

Former Chief Minister of Indian administered Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti wrote in a tweet that the decision of the Karnataka High Court to continue the ban on hijab is disappointing. On the one hand we are talking about women's empowerment on the other hand we are depriving them of the right to a simple choice. It's not just about religion it is about freedom of choice.

Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-e-Muslimeen AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi expressed disappointment over the decision.


He has made several tweets in which he has said that it was a matter of personal freedom and not of religion. He has said that i don't agree with the decision of the court.


In another tweet he wrote I hope the petitioners will go to the Supreme Court. I also hope that not only the All India Muslim Personal Law Board but also other religious organizations will appeal against this decision because it Fundamental rights of culture speech and freedom of expression have been suspended.

Owaisi said constitution says that everyone has the freedom to think express believe & worship. If it is necessary to cover my head in my faith then it is my right to do so. Hijab is also like an act of worship.

Leading lawyer and legal challenger Sanjay Hegde has said that the decision of Karnataka High Court will be challenged in the Supreme Court.

Talking to TV channels, he said that no argument is wrong arguments have been put before the court the court has decided which argument is correct in its view therewill be many appeals on this decision we We will go to the Supreme Court.


Prahlad Joshi Union Minister

Following the Karnataka High Courts decision in the hijab dispute case Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has said that he welcomes the courts decision and appeals to all the people of the country and the state to move forward.


He said that the main task of the students is education, therefore education should be continued leaving everything behind.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed disappointment over the Karnataka High Courtsdecision.


He tweeted Whatever your opinion about the hijab it is not a matter of dress it is a question of a womans right to choose her own dress or not. It is ironic that this fundamental right has not been protected.
