Afghanistan: spilled several thousand liters of alcohol into the canal

Afghan authorities dumped about 3,000 liters of alcohol into the Kabul Canal. The Taliban government is cracking down on alcohol sales in the country.

The Afghan intelligence agency said in a statement on Sunday that a team from the intelligence agency had dumped about 3,000 liters of alcohol into the Kabul Canal.

The Taliban, who returned to power in Afghanistan a few months ago, have banned the sale of alcohol across the country and are cracking down on the business.

A video released by the General Directorate of Intelligence shows agents carrying large cans of alcohol seized during the operation into a canal in the capital.

A video message released by the intelligence agency on Twitter on Sunday said that Muslims must seriously refrain from producing and selling alcohol.

It is not clear from the video or the message when the crackdown and alcohol spill took place, but intelligence officials said in a statement that three liquor dealers had been arrested in the operation.

Afghanistan's previous European-backed government also banned the sale and consumption of alcohol, but the Taliban are tougher than the previous government.

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan on August 15, operations against other criminals, including drug users, have intensified.

The Taliban's Ministry of Enlightenment and Prohibition of Evil has also issued a number of regulations regarding women's rights.
